Lifestyle with Roots

This noren has a scene stiched onto it featuring the thatched roof house located next to our head office. This scenery was created through the participation of many people. The concept behind our clothingmaking is based on the lifestyle revolving around this thatched roof house, and we continue to work in order to deepen our understanding of this philosophy as well. Attracted by the allure of the area, the young staff employed here at Gungendo work while living and interacting with other residents in this town of Omori, which also has a deep history. Similar to the process of making this noren, we believe that sustaining a landscape connects the feelings of many who look upon it. We hope this becomes a scene children even after a century from now will observe and appreciate.

Iwami Ginzan Gungendo is a company based in the 400-person town of Omori-cho, nested in the hills of Iwami Ginzan area in Shimane. Although our headquarters are located in this small town of Shimane, we also have a store in the Coredo Muromachi 3 Mall. Through our original brand of clothing which uses all natural textiles and the sundries we sell, we like to suggest a lifestyle that allows people to enjoy their daily lives by reamaing close to the land, or a ”lifesytle with roots”. Additionally, we continue to challenge ourselves by managing an inn created by restoring an old samurai residency, as well as devloping a skincare brand called Medu which uses a wild yeast found on the plum blossoms of Iwami Ginzan.
