GRID
グリッドが日本橋を作っている。日本橋の街を歩いているとき、西洋をお手本とした建築物や伝統を感じる街並みは、魅力的で非日常の空間を演出していると感じました。その理由は、グリッドをあしらった景観でした。例えば、日本橋三越本店や自然と目に入る建築物の外観。江戸時代から今日までの日本橋の街を俯瞰した姿。また、熈代勝覧の魚河岸もグリッドをあしらい絵描かれています。 今回のめぐるのれん展では、江戸時代から今日まで続いているが、まだ日本橋の特徴として浸透していないグリッドに着目しました。
GRID
Nihonbashi is formed by a grid. When walking around Nihonbashi, the buildings seem modeled after Western architecture, and the traditional townscape produces an attractive, extraordinary space. I feel that way because the townscape forms a grid: for example, Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Department Store and the exterior of other buildings, and the bird's eye view of Nihonbashi across the periods from the Edo period to that of today. Another example is the Uogashi (fish market) in the Kidaishoran that was painted as part of a grid comprising the townscape. In the Meguru Noren Exhibition, I focused on the grid pattern that continues from the Edo period to today but has not been deemed one of the characteristics of Nihonbashi.

I would like to be a considerate, gentle person before being a designer. To be a gentle person, I try to imagine the situation of the other person, think about why the person thinks that way, and then act to please the person. When I design, I consider the environment and the place where the designed object will be installed. I think that considering the surroundings allows me to create things that fulfill the conditions.
